Ativan Drug Treatment

As with so many other drugs being abused today, Ativan is among them.  Ativan addiction is actually more common than one may think.  It is an anti-anxiety sedative typically used to treat anxiety and epileptic seizures, as well as being routinely used in sedation dentistry.  Highly addictive, it can be administered in several ways.  When administered intravenously, it can become effective typically in five to seven minutes, while a muscular injection can take up to thirty minutes to become fully effective.  When taken orally, in a pill form, it can take up to six hours to become effective, depending on the dosage and the individual person.

There are many drugs that can interact with Ativan which can make it particularly dangerous.  Many of the drugs that interact can cause increased sedation, low blood pressure, decrease body temperature and respiration and can even cause death. The most commonly known drugs that may cause adverse interactions are alcohol, sleeping aids or other sedatives, birth control pills, narcotics, tobacco, clozapine, oxycodone, and others.

An Ativan addiction should be treated immediately at a ativan drug treatment center, as well as any other addiction.  Your chances for a full recovery may decrease over time, as well as intensify the withdrawal symptoms that may be experienced during the detoxification process. Many of the withdrawal symptoms experienced are similar to that of alcohol or barbiturate drugs that affect the central nervous system.  Those may include vomiting, body aches, dizziness, fatigue, increased sweating, cramping, and shakiness, among others.  One who has consumed Ativan in higher doses over an extended period of time is more likely to have intensified withdrawal symptoms.

Getting help for an Ativan addiction is an important step for you to take.  Detoxification is only the one small part of treating a short or long term addiction, and due to Ativan being physically and psychologically addictive, a treatment program that addresses those needs is necessary and proven to be the most effective for those who have successfully been treated for this type of addiction.  One may participate in personal therapy, as well as group and family therapy over their course of treatment.   After treatment, it is highly recommended that one consider a sober living residence to continue their  ativan drug treatment and recovery.  This will allow them the added benefits of a drug and alcohol free environment, as well as peer support on a daily basis.

If you or someone you love is suffering from an Ativan addiction, it is very important that you seek help for your addiction.  Due to the physical and psychological effects of the drug, it is a very difficult one to self treat, and one should be closely monitored as well as being under the care of medically trained professionals that are experienced in detoxification and treatment of an Ativan addiction.  With the right combination of physical detoxification and counseling therapy, one can make a full recovery and return to leading a lucid, and drug free lifestyle.  Don’t you think it is time you started living a clean and sober life again?
