Marijuana, to this day, still remains a very controversial drug.  While there may be a continuing battle over its positive or negative effects or benefits as a medicinal drug, there are many that have a marijuana addiction.  Marijuana consists of dried leaves from the hemp plant and is reported to give one euphoric sensation as well as hallucinations in some cases.  Marijuana is typically smoked through water pipes or in special paper similar to that used by tobacco companies, and the effect is almost immediate.  Marijuana also has a very unique aroma when burned, and can differ depending on various aspects of its cultivation. Marijuana can also be ingested by chewing or mixed with foods.  The effects are usually milder and take longer to take effect.  Despite the positive or negative effects, marijuana is one of the most widely used drugs in the country, and like many others, one can develop a marijuana addiction.

Marijuana affects people differently.  While it may have the effect of impairing the judgment of one person, it may seem to enhance it for someone else. It may have the effect of making one feel tired, calm, more focused, forgetful, ease nausea, and may even increase the appetite. A person who is developing a marijuana addiction may first begin to show signs of isolation when using. They may start out using every once in a great while and increase usage gradually over time, or even rapidly.  They may feel like they are unable to function without using, and may even begin using as soon as they wake up in the morning.  Some people may appear to function perfectly normal while under the influence, but the fact is that they are still impaired and there are potential risks involved. Making excuses to use, hiding activities, consuming any quantity on a routine bases may indicate a marijuana addiction. One may become very compulsive about using and use multiple times daily.

Withdrawal symptoms may include cravings, loss of appetite, irritability and restlessness.  There are also some psychological effects evident. The brain convinces itself that it requires the consumption of marijuana in order to function properly.  Treatment is available for this, and many other addictions.  One may choose to participate in a rehabilitation program and support therapy in order for treatment, although stay at a facility may be preferred.  Some that use marijuana may also be using some other type of drug or be suffering from another addiction in addition to a marijuana addiction. Consideration of a halfway house is an option for those who may be suffering from a marijuana addiction.  It allows them to adjust to daily life in a clean environment and offers support from others who are going through recovery.

Though there is a debate on the medicinal benefits of marijuana, the fact remains that people are addicted and seeking treatment options for their marijuana addiction.  You can have peace of mind knowing that there is a program that can help you beat a marijuana addiction.
